Have you seen the new ad campaign from Calvin Klein doves? To say, that I have never wanted to roll around on the ground with my legs open because of a jeans pants, is an understatement. They must be something different about this pair though, look closely at the expressions of the models. Maybe, I should get a pair……. What do you think?

It took forever, for me to caption this design from the Paco Rabanne SS13 collection. Though, I liked some of the designs, I was positively lost when I saw this look on the runway. With the exception of those who work in …. let´s just say, strip clubs, I don´t think the average woman would have a clue about how to work it. Well, unless you were actually working it….. but that´s a whole other post.

Don´t know who the designer is, who´s show is featured in the blog section, of Seed of Style today? Well, if you are a lover of luxury and I dare say that would include fur, you should. Carlo Tivioli has been crowned by many in the fashion design circle, as the Grand Master of fashion. Well, as it relates to designing the very best of luxury fur coats. His family was in the fur trade for decades, and he joined the business in the early 70´s. Carlo Tivoli was among the first innovative luxury fashion designers to unveil new sets of designs, colors and shapes that proceeded to revolutionize the concept of fur coats. He was credited for being the first person in the fashion industry to usher in electric blue and Ferrari red-tinted fur coats. Fur-tastic! Watch his show, it´s in the blog section today.

Didn´t intend for this post to be so long, but my thoughts got the better of me.

Now, if you frequently visit the Seed of Style blog, you will see that I often march to a different beat. An offbeat. It might be one of several reasons actually, the first one involves being born this way, somewhere in the middle is probably the fact that I am Jamaican, and thirdly I am married to a German man (and he will kill me for writing this) but we are not what I would consider racially sensitive to each another (but in a good way). He has lived in my country before and I live in his now, and our code is that the world is not black and white. And yes, we both are aware that there are ignorant racist persons out there in every country, but we also know more than the average person, that (really) it is, not that serious. And not everything is a race issue, take for example the Dolce & Gabbana blackamoor earrings.

Dolce & Gabbana’s depicted a quaint yet colorful Spring 2013 offerings and undeniably gorgeous shoes, but it was the earrings that became the focus afterwards. These baubles, consisted of and what persons actually termed as “decapitated mammy type” character, sporting a cornucopia of fruits and flowers atop her head.

I really think that Seed of Style needs it´s own Youtube Channel, but I digress…..

I am from the Caribbean, we do not view this as a mammy character, this is beautiful to us. We still, have women in the marketplace going about their day to day business with fruits in their baskets and brightly tied heads. What, exactly am I missing here? Why am I reading other fashion blogs and sites referring to this as a form of slave state? Huh, slavery was abolished a long time ago in Caribbean, why are the women in the market place and at cultural dinners and shows dressed this way, today still then? One blog even went on to state that this should be found in a Jim Crow era museum, huh?!

A popular site quoted and may I add quite incorrectly “The earrings harken back to a time in slavery when African women were viewed as pawns and accessories to white colonials.” It was implied that we were so mesmerized by the bright hues and two toned sunglasses, that we were not able to recognize the undoubtedly political ear candy. This being said, even after seeing that the entire collection resembled styles reflected in African tribes.

Would the persons labelling this as a racist have the same problem if the earrings featured a lighter skinned hispanic looking woman? What if, the models were black and brown skinned? It´s cool if I wear it, but not ok, if my Russian girlfriend does? Seriously, people come on!

My only issue is the fact that Dolce & Gabbana featured no black models in their show, for this season. And that´s the only concern that is worth having a discussion over.

It is very simple to explain, I subscribe to Ruthie Davis on FB, simply because it is literally like having a shoe orgy! Is that even how this word is spelt? Well, in any case, I know how to spell wow and Ruthie Davis. I mean take a look at that shoe, wow Ruthie Davis!!!! lol

From New York to Milan the streets are brimming with show-goers looking pretty in pumpkin, cool in coral and tres chic in tangerine. Striking the balance between bright and brooding, orange makes the perfect seasonal shade. Work the energizing color into your wardrobe to transition your look from the neon shades of summer to fall’s moody hues.

The Monique Lhuillier show is always big, this much is known. Lincoln Center’s Box was accommodated to the absolute max, with 9 rows and what some claim, pushing and shoving.

Monique’s signature red carpet appropriate gowns flowed in one by one, this time without the of the usual pink girlie gowns and instead sea sexy inspirations. A large aqua and green swirly screen stood at the back, making a pretty background for the models. They strode by in a seemingly endless barrage of eveningwear, some corseted peplum tops and pencil skirts in navy and white prints and then came the gowns. And, so many of them!!!

Textures were revised and revamped by incorporating silk, chiffon and pretty crepes. Seafoam dipped dresses and others draped in sequins with scooping neckline. In keeping with the aquatic look, models had wet hair slicked back and then curled in addition to aqua hued eyeshadow.
